Bomarzo is a village in Lazio at the foot of Monte Cimino; here one could immerse themselves in a unique scenery, the Villa of Wonders, also called Sacro Bosco, often referred to as “the Park of Monsters”, a setting that fascinates thousands of visitors every year.
The Sacro Bosco di Bomarzo was designed by Prince Vicino Orsini and the great architect Pirro Ligorio in 1552 and is truly unique in the world. The cultured prince of Bomarzo dedicated himself to the creation of an eccentric “grove” by carving enigmatic figures of monsters, dragons, mythological subjects and exotic animals in the peperino rocks emerging from the ground. The Sacro Bosco was highly appreciated by intellectuals and artists such as Claude Lorrain, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Salvador Dali, Mario Praz and Maurizio Calvesi.
